Add User Profile to a Private Account // My AT&T

iOS    Android    Responsive    AT&T User Interface

Project Goal

The goal of this particular feature - like many others within the Support section - was to provide the end user an option to improve the mobile experience and taking an extra step towards his potential needs.

This specific feature comes to meet the need of the main user, to whom the account belongs, to add additional sub-users (family members and more), and have. the ability to manage their usage through his device.

By "manage" we include an overall control of sub-users' connection to the Internet or list of devices that each one of them adds in.

For example if my son plays his X-Box for 6 hours a day, I have the option as his mom, the account owner, and the one who pays the bill, to control the time he plays, but also turn the XBox off or pause it for limited time.

This facilitates in most efficient and easy way the monitoring over the household, and contributes to better understanding of bandwidth optimal consumption.

User Segmentation

It was a mix of demographic segmentation – based on gender, age, occupation, marital status, income, etc and technographic segmentation – based on preferred technologies, software, and mobile devices.

We also had to be well aware to the behavioral segmentation, based on users actions or inactions, spending/consumption habits, feature use, session frequency, browsing history, average order value, etc.

My Contribution

In this case, we did not have any ready-made assets / comps within the Support platform to rely on, since it was a completely new mini-feature.
The process involved building a general flowchart, very detailed and accurate, because it was obvious we are dealing here with tens of end cases and nuances that we face for the. first time.

We have divided the feature into 4 sub-categories: (1) Device list page, (2) Profile Page, (3) Create Profile Modal, and (4) Edit Profile Modal, to make the design process more graduated and fine.

Main Challenges

The challenge was to invent something from scratch within a very defined platform.

Despite the fact I have been on the My ATT project for a few years now, and familiar with many fields within it, it was an unmapped land. We had to produce special assets and add these to the brand library and to handle new animations as well.
There were also many UX questions around the Stop / Pause / Block mechanism of the online devices.

Fixed times? Free setting? Can the sub-users have any control over these?

And how do we handle the alerts/notifications system here?
All the sudden the classic structure where the main user is the only variable in the equation was broken, which was a game changer.
